Welcome to Atlantean Cottage. If there is anything we can provide to make your stay more comfortable, please let us know and we’ll be happy to accommodate.
If you need to speak with us, check the kitchen – one of us is usually there. If you can’t find us there, you can reach us using the phone in the foyer, calling the number on the sign there; we answer calls from this phone 24 hours/day. We reside on the property, but we turn off the main phone at night.
Breakfast is served between 8:00 and 9:30; you may come down at any time. We have tables in the dining room, parlor, and, weather permitting, the front porch. When you come down, select any table available and seat yourself. We will be out to serve you promptly. The menu for the next day is posted right after breakfast. If you have any questions about the menu, stop by the kitchen to talk with us.
Your Room
The heat and air conditioning operate using the remote mounted next to the door. Point the remote at the unit on the wall, press the red button to turn it on or off; the up and down arrows control the temperature.
Your room has a refrigerator, located in the closet, and coffee maker. If you prefer tea, follow the directions on the Keurig machine, just omit placing the coffee pod in the machine.
Talleyrand is equipped with steam shower. The silver disk on the back wall of the shower controls the steam. Press the button on the left to turn on the steam generator; it takes about 5 minutes to get going. Enjoy it as long as you like; press the button on the left a second time to turn the steam generator off. When you are done, please leave the shower door ajar to allow the steam to dissipate.
Your room was thoroughly cleaned and sanitized prior to your arrival. In keeping with guidance from public health agencies, we will not enter your room during your stay. If your wastebaskets or recycling need to be emptied, please place them outside your door. If you need your towels refreshed, additional coffee station supplies or anything else, let us know and we will deliver them to your room. The fireplace is not available for use this year, as we are not able to clean and inspect it daily.
Atlantean
The first floor is mostly public space. In the front parlor, you will find plenty of information about many of the activities in the area as well as maps and guidebooks for Acadia National Park. We are always happy to share our recommendations and favorite things to do on and off the island. The butler's pantry is equipped for your convenience with glass and dishware and an ice maker. Help yourself to any items in the cabinets on the left (the cabinets on the right are reserved for staff use). When you are done with them, leave them in the tray on the counter. We have very good water in Bar Harbor, supplied from spring-fed Eagle Lake high above town. The sink in the butler’s pantry has an additional filter on the cold water side; it is a good place to fill your water bottles before you head out on your adventures.
Visiting Acadia National Park
Did you purchase your pass for Acadia, or for a trip to the top of Cadillac Mountain? If you need a pass for Acadia or a reservation for entry to the Cadillac Summit Road, you may purchase them online at www.recreation.gov. Passes for Acadia may also be purchased at the Visitor Center in Bar Harbor, at the corner of Main St. and Cottage St., and at the Hulls Cove Visitor Center and the Sand Beach Entrance Station. If you purchase your pass online and need to print it out (or forgot to print it before you left home), forward it to stay@atlanteancottage.com, and we will be happy to print your pass for you.
Reservations for the Cadillac Summit Road are only available online. You can purchase a reservation for sunrise (entry 3:30 am to 5:30 am) or for an entry time during the day, beginning at 6:30 am. Sunrise reservations are released two days in advance. Daytime reservations can usually be made at any time. Cellular service can be spotty in the park – take a screen shot of the pass so it is available to you offline, in the event you do not have service at the Summit Road entrance. Download the Recreation.Gov mobile app to make and display your vehicle reservation. Reservations are necessary only to drive to the summit – there are several trails that will get you there as well; talk with us if you’d like to hike the summit.
If you are looking to go hiking in Acadia, there are several apps you can use to help you choose the best trails for your interests. We like the Chimani National Parks and All Trails apps. Both give you the opportunity to learn more about the trails, and download them for offline use. We also have paper hiking guides and trail maps in the parlor. Ask us for these and for recommendations matching your hiking interests, from flat walking paths to strenuous climbs.
Dining
There are many dining options in Bar Harbor, on the island and nearby. We are always happy to talk with you about the best places to eat. Here are a few of our favorites:
Black Friar Inn, 10 Summer St (along Cottage St next to town hall)
The Asticou Inn, 16 Peadody Drive, Northeast Harbor
Sweet Pea’s Café, 854 State Route 3 (about 10 minutes outside Bar Harbor)
Abel’s Lobster Pound, 13 Abels Lane (our favorite place for a waterside lobster)
There are many others worth your time and consideration; talk with us to find a restaurant that matches your appetite.
